Description

SUNFLOWER (Helianthus annuus)

Wild Sunflower is found throughout the U.S., Canada and northern Mexico. It can be found along roadsides, in waste places and other open sites. Plants are highly adaptable, tolerating dry to moderate moisture and a variety of soil types. Full sun is a must. Height of plants range from 2 to 8 feet. Seed-eating birds are attracted to the seed head in late summer, and flowers are attractive to honey bees, wild bees and other pollinators. Seed has high dormancy and should be planted in late fall, or provide 30 days of moist-stratification prior to planting in spring.
